Steel hooks for thread
Steel hooks for crochet thread and lace use their own numbering, where a higher number means a smaller hook. They run from about 0.75 mm to 2.25 mm and are used with lace-weight yarn and cotton thread.
Choosing a hook
- Use the hook on the yarn label or pattern as a starting point.
- Amigurumi is usually worked with a hook one or two sizes smaller than the label suggests, so the stitches are tight and the stuffing does not show.
- Blankets and garments often look better a size larger, for more drape.
